Students from ENACT Dropout Prevention Programs, which are funded by the New York City Council’s Dropout Prevention and Intervention Initiative and the United Way of New York’s Graduate-Prepare-Succeed, will perform alongside their teaching artists in original theatrical pieces that reveal the many daunting obstacles students face on a daily basis, which all too often result in students dropping out.  This year’s show will  address issues such as bullying, violence and fear of school.

ENACT to  Partner in New York City Council  Gun
Violence   Prevention Initiative

Our entire nation has been deeply hurt by the recent tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut and others like it. Like so many others across the country, ENACT leaders and staff have been moved by the horrible news stories of guns, violence, and youth.  We applaud gun control efforts being made by local and national legislators, but that is only one part of the problem.  We believe strongly that mental health, including social and emotional learning, is an important piece of the puzzle as well.  That is why ENACT has made it a priority to address violence, conflict resolution, and guns in our programs this year.
ENACT was chosen to participate in the New York City Council’s Gun Violence Prevention Initiative, which  is modeled after “Cease Fire,” a nationally recognized approach that has reduced violence in  both Chicago and Boston. New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn calls Cease Fire  “an innovative approach to preventing gun violence that draws on the strength of our communities and focuses on both rapid response and early prevention.”
