Professional Staff Development

Recognizing that improving social and emotional skills requires the support of the entire school community ENACT offers professional staff development workshops to help school staff:

  • Better understand their students’ behavior.
  • Communicate more effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Explore techniques for identifying at-risk behavior.
  • Effectively incorporate drama into their teaching as a way of facilitating an effective learning environment.
  • Help students achieve New York State Learning Standards, with particular emphasis on the English Language Arts and Theatre curricula.

Employing ENACT's signature method of creative drama activities, reflective scene work, and guided dialogue, our workshops provide inclusive, hands-on instruction to school staff working with all student populations. Participants learn to integrate our innovative creative drama techniques into their classroom and teaching strategies while having the opportunity for personal reflection and sharing skill sets with colleagues. Workshop topics include:

  • Problem-Solving in the Classroom
  • Key Elements of Communication
  • Making it Safe for Students to Learn
  • Drama as a Teaching Tool
  • Stress Management
  • Goal Setting
  • Strategies for Dealing with Bullying
  • Building a Winning Environment for Learning

In June 2010, New York City schools contracted ENACT to lead 18 workshops during a city-wide professional development day. In total, 339 school administrators and teachers attended our workshops in one day.

ENACT offers a co-teaching series, as well as three-day and one-week training institutes, and can tailor programs to the specific needs of each school.
