Full School Partnerships

Funded by the NYC Council’s Dropout Prevention and Intervention Initiative and the United Way of NYC’s Community Achievement Project in the Schools (CAPS), and in partnership with the NYC Department of Education, ENACT works year-round, in-school and after-school, in certain NYC public schools. During the 2010-11 school year, ENACT’s full school partners are:

  • Academy for Personal Leadership and Excellence/M.S. 363, Bronx
  • Legacy School for Integrated Studies, Manhattan
  • School for Legal Studies, Brooklyn
  • Repertory Company High School for Theatre Arts, Manhattan

In these partnerships, ENACT site staff - site directors, teaching artists, parent coordinators, and social workers - work as full partners with teachers, parents, and administrators to help create safe and nurturing school environments for students whose low attendance flags them as likely candidates to drop out. What distinguishes our full school partnerships from our regular student programs is our on-going, on-site presence in the schools. These resident ENACT staff members work to become fully integrated into the fabric of the school community by becoming members of support teams and outreaching to parents. ENACT's artists and staff create lasting mentor-like relationships, playing an important role in the students' growth into self-aware, self-confident members of their community.

Culminating in a year-end production “Show Up!”our students from our dropout prevention-focused partnerships, funded by the New York City Council and United Way of New York City, perform onstage along with teaching artists (all professional actors) in front of an audience of friends, family members, teachers and school administrators, and representatives from the NYC Department of Education, City Council, and United Way. In Show Up!, ENACT students affirm through original performances the reasons why they choose to stay in school and how they overcome obstacles to their success.
